It took long enough, but I finally got around to digitizing my slides from last August’s visit to the Dallas and Fort Worth zoos. As much as I love Mike’s Camera, they never actually sent me the scans when they processed these, nor after I told them I hadn’t received the scans and they saidContinue reading “OneRoll: Dallas and Fort Worth Zoos – Ektachrome E100”

OneRoll – Ektachrome 100 (pushed) at HawkQuest
Note: If you want to hang any of the below images on your wall, you can purchase a print here. As with my other HawkQuest images, 20% of all proceeds from print sales will be donated to HawkQuest to support their mission of raptor rehabilitation and conservation. I wrote before about the event I participatedContinue reading “OneRoll – Ektachrome 100 (pushed) at HawkQuest”
Morning Light
Part of my volunteer duties at the Denver Zoo is showing up at the crack of dawn twice a month to help prepare animal diets. I always have my camera on me, just in case I want to do some shooting afterward, but this time I couldn’t help but pull it out on my wayContinue reading “Morning Light”
Mi Mi Do Re SO
The Chestnut-backed Thrush is a near threatened species that is likely extinct in many of its native homes in the wild. It’s also my favorite small bird. They’re not as well known for their songs as your various larks and grosbeaks, but when they’re in the mood… boy can they sing. I’ve more than onceContinue reading “Mi Mi Do Re SO”
OneRoll – Ektar 100 August 2019
I’m going through a lot of different emulsions right now, some I know, most I don’t, because I plan to combine this OneRoll format with my project of visiting all the top zoos in America: OneRoll, OneDay, OneZoo. I just need to decide what film I want to use for the entirety of the project.Continue reading “OneRoll – Ektar 100 August 2019”
It’s a Frame Job
Buy a Print. Was driving through Arsenal, late evening, very overcast. Dark enough that we’re looking at f/2.8 at 8000 iso. I catch mama and bebe to my right through the passenger window. I turn around to get them on the good side. Mama knows what’s up; some looky-loo with a big lens wanting toContinue reading “It’s a Frame Job”
One Roll – Delta 3200 July 2019
Ilford’s Delta 3200 is another film I’d not had a lot of experience with. Samples online showed a pretty distinct lack of contrast, likely owing to it really being somewhere in the neighborhood is ISO 1000, with a design toward push processing. To try to capture some of that contrast back, I shot at 1600.Continue reading “One Roll – Delta 3200 July 2019”
One Roll – Denver Zoo 7/6/2019
On a whim the other day, I picked up a Nikon F5 Film SLR. Arguably the last *great* film SLR. I sold off most of my Pentax glass when I made the switch to the Nikon system, so my K1000 didn’t have quite the punching power it used to. So? Buy what was once aContinue reading “One Roll – Denver Zoo 7/6/2019”
Terns in Flight
Didn’t really want to haul the 150-600 or the backpack around today, so I hit the zoo with a simple kit: the d700, and the Tamron 70-200. It was a little toasty outside, one of those days where the mock-jungle of Bird World feels *less* hot and humid than Denver’s mountain air. I’ve been tryingContinue reading “Terns in Flight”
